For nearly three decades, Raspberry Island Lodge has welcomed guests to experience Alaska’s wild beauty from a small, family-run lodge tucked between Kodiak and Afognak Islands. The lodge’s story begins in the mid-1990s, when the Ivie family discovered the quiet beaches and rich waters of Raspberry Island and decided to build a place that combined their love of Alaska’s wilderness with genuine hospitality.
What started as a simple idea to share their home and the surrounding natural abundance has grown into one of Kodiak’s most respected all-inclusive adventure lodges. Every season, the family and their small team of guides and hosts continue that same mission: to provide meaningful, personal experiences that reflect the true spirit of Alaska.
The lodge sits on the site of the former Wakefield Fisheries Cannery, a cornerstone of the region’s early king crab fishery. After the 1964 earthquake and tsunami, Wakefield sold the property to several employees, and the area was used as a small hunting camp for many years.
The Ivies purchased the land in 1996 and began restoring it. They built each cabin and the main lodge by hand, often with help from friends and neighbors who shared their vision. What emerged was a self-sufficient retreat designed to offer comfort in one of the most remote and beautiful corners of Alaska—without compromising the rugged character of its surroundings.
For 25 years, Mike Ivie led the lodge with the steady guidance and deep knowledge that only a lifetime in Alaska could provide. Mike oversaw the builds and logistics, while his brother and business partner, Bill, led the way on the water. In 2022, Mike’s son Eric Ivie, who first set foot on Raspberry Island as a child, took over operations.
Eric grew up learning the tides, the wildlife, and the rhythms of the island. Today, he and his wife continue the family tradition, maintaining the same values that built the lodge’s reputation integrity, professionalism, and genuine care for every guest.
“Treat every visitor like part of the family, share what makes this place special, and ensure each stay is comfortable, safe, and unforgettable”
At Raspberry Island Lodge, we believe that Alaska is best experienced personally through hands-on adventure, connection with the land and sea, and the quiet moments between. Whether you come to fish, explore, photograph wildlife, or simply unwind, our goal is to help you experience Alaska at its most authentic.
We keep our guest numbers small to ensure individual attention, flexibility, and privacy. This allows every trip to be tailored to the group’s interests and the ever-changing environment around us.
Living and working in such a pristine environment carries responsibility. The lodge operates with respect for the land, wildlife, and the community that makes this lifestyle possible.
We minimize waste, conserve energy and water, and support responsible fishing and wildlife viewing practices. By sharing the island with care, we help preserve it for future generations both human and wild.
Over the years, Raspberry Island Lodge has welcomed guests from all over the world as anglers, adventurers, photographers, and families, many of whom return year after year. For us, that’s the greatest compliment.
Our lodge isn’t defined by luxury or formality, but by comfort, warmth, and authenticity. It’s a place where stories are told over dinner, friendships are formed on the deck, and Alaska’s wild beauty feels both vast and personal.`
Whether you’re drawn by the fishing, the wildlife, or the tranquility of the island, Raspberry Island Lodge offers an experience that captures the essence of Alaska.
