Experience the best of Alaska’s saltwater fishing from the comfort of Raspberry Island Lodge. Our ocean trips target halibut, lingcod, and rockfish in the pristine waters surrounding Kodiak Island.
The waters surrounding Raspberry Island are among Alaska’s most diverse and productive marine environments. From halibut and lingcod to multiple species of rockfish, every day on the ocean offers a chance to catch a wide range of fish while surrounded by whales, sea otters, and rugged island scenery.
Our remote location in the Kodiak Archipelago provides access to lightly fished areas where healthy populations of Alaska’s most iconic ocean species thrive. Whether you’re targeting trophy halibut or mixing it up with fast-action rockfish, our guided ocean trips deliver both adventure and comfort.
Alaska’s waters hold more than 30 species of rockfish, and the Kodiak area is home to several that provide fast-paced fishing and beautiful color variety. From black and dusky rockfish to the vibrant yelloweye, these fish are plentiful and fun to catch.
Rockfish are available all season and can be targeted on the same trips as halibut or lingcod. Light-tackle fishing makes this experience accessible for anglers of all skill levels, and their mild flavor makes them one of Alaska’s most popular eating fish.
When the lingcod season opens on July 1, guests have a chance to target one of Alaska’s most aggressive and photogenic fish. Lingcod inhabit rocky structures and steep drop-offs where they ambush smaller fish, and they’re known for their strong strikes and wide, toothy jaws.
Fishing for lingcod is an exciting experience that often involves vertical jigging or baited lures near underwater reefs. Many guests land fish over 40 inches long, and their mild, white fillets are excellent table fare.
Halibut are available throughout the summer, with June through September considered prime season. The waters around Raspberry and Afognak Islands consistently produce excellent numbers of both eater-size and trophy halibut.
Halibut are a highlight for nearly every guest who visits Raspberry Island Lodge. These powerful flatfish can weigh anywhere from 20 to over 100 pounds, offering a challenging and rewarding fight.
We fish halibut in both deep offshore channels and nearshore plateaus, depending on conditions. Techniques include bait fishing with circle hooks and jigs, using proven rigs designed to bring large fish to the surface efficiently.
All ocean fishing trips at Raspberry Island Lodge are fully guided and include the use of top-quality rods, reels, and tackle. Depending on conditions and species targeted, we use a mix of:
for halibut in deeper water
for lingcod and rockfish near structure
for shallow rockfish or when guests want an active, hands-on experience
Each of our custom-built 30-foot catamarans is equipped with a heated cabin, restroom, and plenty of open deck space. Our captains monitor tides, weather, and sonar to keep guests on the best bite throughout the day.
Every day on the water offers more than just great fishing. The ocean around Raspberry Island is alive with whales, puffins, sea lions, and sea otters, often visible right from the boat.
Between drifts, guests can enjoy the panoramic views of Kodiak’s mountains and rugged shoreline a constant reminder of what makes this region so unique.
