Fish for Alaska’s legendary king and silver salmon in the pristine waters surrounding Kodiak. Our guided trips from Raspberry Island Lodge combine world class fishing, professional captains, and breathtaking coastal scenery.
Few places in Alaska offer the diversity and abundance of salmon found around Raspberry Island. Our remote location near Kodiak gives anglers access to thriving runs of king (Chinook) and silver (Coho) salmon, both available within a short run from the lodge.
Whether you’re chasing your first salmon or a new personal best, Raspberry Island Lodge delivers a world-class experience surrounded by the rugged beauty of coastal Alaska.
King salmon are the largest of the Pacific salmon species and one of Alaska’s most sought-after fish. They begin arriving in the waters around Raspberry Island as early as May and are most commonly encountered through mid-summer. While kings may still be caught incidentally in August while targeting silver salmon, they are not typically a primary focus at that time due to the wide variety of species available each day.
Fishing for kings here is an exciting mix of patience and power slow trolling with downriggers or mooching herring near current breaks and kelp lines. The reward is a hard strike and a fight that tests skill and gear alike.
Our guides monitor the tides and feeding patterns daily to position you in the most productive areas, ensuring every trip offers a real chance at a trophy Chinook
As summer progresses, silver salmon arrive in increasing numbers, providing fast-paced action for anglers of all skill levels. The season typically begins in mid-July, peaks in August, and shifts toward river fishing in late August through mid-September or until the run concludes.
Silvers are known for their acrobatic runs and relentless energy. It’s not uncommon to have multiple fish hooked at once, making every trip a thrill. Guests fish nearshore with light tackle, casting spinners or trolling herring techniques that keep the experience active and engaging from start to finish.
Silver salmon are prized for their firm, flavorful fillets and make excellent table fare, fresh or smoked.
Raspberry Island Lodge provides all necessary fishing gear and bait, maintained to professional standards. Our captains are experienced in multiple salmon fishing techniques, including:
For targeting deep-running kings early in the season.
Effective for suspended fish or mixed-species action.
Ideal for silvers feeding near the surface or tidal seams.
All rods, reels, and tackle are selected for the conditions and species targeted that day, ensuring a smooth experience for beginners and seasoned anglers alike.
King salmon fishing is best from May through mid-July, while silver salmon provide strong saltwater action from mid-July through the end of August. As the season progresses, fishing shifts from saltwater to the river in late August and continues through mid-September or until the run concludes. Many guests plan their trips to overlap these periods for the greatest variety and action.
Our salmon fishing trips are led by U.S. Coast Guard–licensed captains with decades of local experience. Each guide adapts to changing tides, water temperature, and fish behavior to ensure every guest has the best possible opportunity for success.
Fishing takes place aboard custom 30-foot catamarans equipped with heated cabins, restrooms, and spacious decks for easy casting and netting. Safety, comfort, and productivity are at the core of every trip.
Landing a powerful Alaska salmon is a highlight, but the journey itself is equally rewarding. While fishing, guests often spot whales, sea otters, puffins, and bald eagles.
Between bites, the views of snow-capped peaks and forested coastline remind you that you’re in one of the most spectacular fishing destinations in the world.
After returning to the lodge, our team handles fish cleaning, vacuum sealing, and freezing, so your salmon is ready to travel home or ship directly.
Raspberry Island Lodge operates during Alaska’s prime salmon season, June through September. Each all-inclusive package includes guided fishing, lodging, meals, and full fish processing.
Reserve your preferred dates early. Early reservations are encouraged so we can help allocate the best timing to target your preferred species, as July and August tend to fill faster than any other part of the season due to peak fishing conditions.
From the first run of kings to the late-summer surge of silvers, salmon fishing at Raspberry Island Lodge captures the essence of Alaska wild, untamed, and unforgettable. Whether you’re here for the challenge, the beauty, or the camaraderie, each day on the water becomes a story worth retelling.
